Synopsis of Ovaries

The ovaries are a pair of small, almond-shaped organs located on either side of the uterus in the lower abdomen of females. They are essential components of the female reproductive system and serve two primary functions: the production of eggs (ova) and the secretion of reproductive hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, and a small amount of testosterone.

Each ovary contains thousands of follicles, each housing an immature egg. During a woman’s menstrual cycle, one follicle matures and releases an egg in a process called ovulation. After ovulation, the follicle transforms into the corpus luteum, which produces hormones that prepare the uterus for a potential pregnancy.

Ovarian health is crucial not only for fertility but also for regulating the menstrual cycle, maintaining bone density, supporting mood and energy levels, and balancing the endocrine system. The function of the ovaries naturally declines with age, leading to menopause, typically around age 50.

Natural remedies to support Ovaries

Diet rich in healthy fats: Supports hormone production and reduces inflammation. Include flaxseeds, avocados, and oily fish.

Adaptogenic herbs: Ashwagandha, maca, and rhodiola help regulate stress hormones that affect ovarian function.

Vitamin D: Essential for hormone signaling and fertility. Deficiency is linked with PCOS and ovarian dysfunction.

Inositol (myo- and D-chiro): Commonly used to support insulin sensitivity and ovulatory function in PCOS.

Exercise and weight management: Help balance insulin and reproductive hormones.

Seed cycling: A naturopathic approach that uses flax, pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds to regulate estrogen and progesterone phases.
