Tartarian aster (Aster tataricus)
Synopsis
Tartarian aster (Aster tataricus), known as Zi Wan in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a traditional respiratory herb used to relieve cough, expel phlegm, and support lung function. It contains triterpenoids, essential oils, and flavonoids that contribute to its expectorant, antitussive, and anti-inflammatory effects. Often used in combination with other lung herbs, tartarian aster is particularly helpful for chronic or stubborn coughs and bronchial irritation.
