Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Lodhtree (Symplocos racemosa), commonly known as Lodhra, has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine for supporting skin health and aiding the healing of wounds and abrasions. Classical Ayurvedic texts describe the use of Lodhtree bark as an astringent and cooling agent, applied topically to minor wounds, abrasions, and ulcers to promote healing and reduce inflammation. The plant's bark contains tannins and other polyphenolic compounds, which are believed to contribute to its astringent and hemostatic properties, helping to stop minor bleeding and support tissue repair.

However, while the traditional use is well-documented, there is limited modern scientific research specifically evaluating Lodhtree's efficacy for treating abrasions. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial potential, which could be beneficial for wound healing, but robust clinical trials in humans are lacking. As a result, the use of Lodhtree for abrasions is primarily justified by traditional evidence rather than strong scientific validation.
