Bacopa monnieri, commonly known as Bacopa or Brahmi, is a plant traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine, primarily as a cognitive enhancer. Its use for treating acne is not central to its traditional applications; however, some Ayurveda practitioners include Bacopa in skin formulations, based on its reputed anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Historically, Bacopa has been used to address skin conditions such as eczema and ulcers, with the rationale that its cooling and detoxifying effects may benefit inflammatory skin issues, including acne. There is minimal direct scientific evidence specifically evaluating Bacopa's efficacy for acne. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest Bacopa extracts possess anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties, which are potentially relevant to acne management. However, clinical trials in humans focusing on acne have not been conducted.
