Momordica (a genus that includes Momordica charantia, also known as bitter melon) has a history of use in various traditional medicine systems, particularly in Asia, for a range of ailments including skin conditions such as acne. Traditional practitioners have sometimes recommended topical applications or internal consumption of Momordica extracts to "purify the blood" or manage inflammatory skin disorders, relying on its perceived anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. However, the use of Momordica specifically for acne is not among its most common or well-documented traditional uses, and references to this application are relatively limited and anecdotal.

From a scientific standpoint, there is minimal direct evidence supporting the efficacy of Momordica species in the treatment or prevention of acne.
