Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a Peruvian root vegetable traditionally consumed for its reputed energy- and stamina-boosting properties. In traditional Andean medicine, maca has been used for centuries as a general tonic to improve vitality, reduce fatigue, and enhance resilience against stress. While the term "adrenal cortex support" is not specifically found in traditional literature, maca’s use as an adaptogen—herbs believed to help the body resist physical and mental stress—aligns with the modern concept of supporting adrenal health, since the adrenal cortex produces stress hormones like cortisol.
Scientific research on maca’s direct impact on the adrenal cortex is limited. Most studies have focused on its effects on sexual function, mood, and energy, with some animal and human studies suggesting anti-fatigue and anti-stress effects.
