Evidence supporting the use of: Eurycoma Longifolia
For the health condition: Adrenal Fatigue
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Eurycoma longifolia, also known as tongkat ali, is traditionally used in Southeast Asian herbal medicine for various health concerns, including improving energy, libido, and resilience to stress. Its use for "adrenal fatigue" is largely derived from anecdotal reports and traditional practices that associate the herb with enhanced vitality and stress adaptation. There is no recognition of "adrenal fatigue" as a formal medical diagnosis in mainstream medicine, and scientific studies specifically investigating Eurycoma longifolia for this condition are lacking. However, traditional use and some preclinical studies suggest Eurycoma longifolia may help modulate stress hormone responses (such as cortisol) and improve subjective measures of stress and well-being. Limited clinical trials have shown reductions in perceived stress and improvements in mood among healthy adults, but these findings are preliminary and not specific to "adrenal fatigue" as defined by alternative health practices. Overall, while traditional use supports its application for stress and vitality, robust scientific validation for its efficacy in treating "adrenal fatigue" is currently insufficient.
