Evidence supporting the use of: Deer Velvet
For the body system: Adrenal Glands
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Deer velvet has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for promoting vitality and general health, including what practitioners describe as "support for the kidneys and adrenal glands." In TCM, the adrenal glands are not identified in the same way as in Western medicine, but deer velvet is often recommended for conditions associated with fatigue, weakness, or stress, which can be interpreted as symptoms of adrenal insufficiency or imbalance in Western terms. However, the historical use is largely based on anecdotal and empirical tradition rather than detailed physiological understanding.
Scientific studies on deer velvet's effects on adrenal gland function specifically are extremely limited. Most research focuses on its potential to enhance physical performance, improve immune function, or accelerate recovery, rather than direct support for adrenal health. There is little direct evidence from clinical trials to confirm that deer velvet supports adrenal gland function or hormone production in humans. Therefore, while its use for this purpose is primarily justified by tradition, robust scientific validation is lacking, and the evidence level is low.
