Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Eurycomanone is a major quassinoid compound found in the root of Eurycoma longifolia, commonly known as Tongkat Ali. Traditionally, Tongkat Ali has been used in Southeast Asian herbal medicine as a general tonic and adaptogen, claimed to boost energy, stamina, and overall vitality, which are effects sometimes attributed to supporting the adrenal system. However, the specific use of eurycomanone or Tongkat Ali for adrenal gland support is largely based on traditional beliefs rather than robust scientific validation. Historically, the root has been used to combat fatigue, stress, and symptoms of overwork—conditions loosely associated with adrenal function—though such associations are more inferred than explicit in traditional texts.

Modern research on Tongkat Ali and eurycomanone has mainly focused on testosterone enhancement, anti-malarial, and anti-cancer properties, with little direct investigation into their effects on adrenal hormones like cortisol or on adrenal gland health itself. Some animal studies suggest adaptogenic effects, which could be interpreted as indirect adrenal support, but human clinical data are sparse and inconclusive. The evidence, therefore, remains largely traditional, with a low level of direct scientific support for adrenal-specific benefits.
