For the body system: Adrenal Glands
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Ghee, a form of clarified butter, has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine, where it is often recommended to help support healthy adrenal function, particularly in cases of fatigue or stress. The rationale in Ayurveda is that ghee nourishes "Ojas," the body’s vital energy, which is associated with resilience and vitality and is believed to be depleted by chronic stress and overwork—conditions linked to adrenal fatigue by some practitioners.
Traditional Ayurvedic texts describe ghee as a "rasayana" (rejuvenative substance) that supports overall health and hormonal balance. However, the connection between ghee and specifically supporting the adrenal glands is inferred from broader claims about its nourishing and restorative properties, rather than direct references to adrenal physiology (which was not explicitly described in ancient texts).
From a modern scientific perspective, there is little direct research linking ghee consumption to adrenal gland function or hormone regulation. While ghee contains healthy fats and fat-soluble vitamins (such as A, D, E, and K) that support general health, scientific validation for its targeted effect on the adrenal glands is lacking. Thus, the use of ghee for adrenal support is justified by traditional practice and theory rather than robust scientific evidence.
