Evidence supporting the use of: Mineral blend
For the body system: Adrenal Glands
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2
Mineral blends, typically consisting of a variety of essential macro- and trace minerals (such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc, and others), have a long history of traditional use to support overall vitality and well-being, which includes the function of the adrenal glands. In traditional herbal and naturopathic systems, minerals are considered foundational for maintaining energy and resilience to stress—functions often attributed to the adrenal glands. The rationale is that the adrenal glands, responsible for producing hormones like cortisol and aldosterone, require adequate levels of minerals for optimal function, particularly sodium, potassium, and magnesium, which are involved in fluid balance and stress response.
However, direct scientific validation specifically linking generic "mineral blends" to improved adrenal gland function is limited. Some studies highlight the role of individual minerals (e.g., magnesium deficiency may exacerbate stress response; sodium and potassium are essential for adrenal hormone action), but there is little high-quality clinical evidence supporting the use of multi-mineral supplements specifically for adrenal support in healthy individuals. Most claims are based on traditional use and the understanding that correcting a mineral deficiency may indirectly aid adrenal health. Therefore, while there is some traditional basis and a plausible physiological rationale, robust scientific evidence is lacking, and the evidence rating is moderate at best.
