Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Ox adrenal gland extracts have been used traditionally in alternative medicine to support human adrenal gland function. The use of animal glandular extracts dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when extracts from bovine or porcine organs were commonly used in the practice of organotherapy. Proponents believed that consuming glandular tissue could support the corresponding human organs, including the adrenal glands, which play an important role in the body's stress response and hormone production. However, the scientific evidence supporting this practice is minimal. Most of the rationale is based on historical and anecdotal accounts, and no robust clinical trials have demonstrated that ox adrenal extracts can effectively support adrenal function in humans. Modern endocrinology does not recommend glandular extracts as a therapy due to lack of evidence and potential risks, such as contamination or immune reactions. In summary, the use of ox adrenal extract for adrenal support is justified primarily by tradition, with little scientific validation.
