Rosavins are a group of compounds found in Rhodiola rosea, a traditional adaptogenic herb. Scientific studies have explored its effects on the body's stress response, particularly focusing on its ability to modulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which is central to adrenal gland function. Clinical trials, although limited in size and scale, have shown that standardized extracts of Rhodiola rosea containing rosavin may help reduce symptoms of fatigue, improve mental performance under stress, and promote a balanced stress response. These benefits are hypothesized to result from the herb’s ability to influence cortisol levels and support the body's adaptation to physical and emotional stress. However, while animal and in vitro studies indicate potential effects on adrenal gland hormones, direct evidence in humans for specific "adrenal support" is less robust. Most clinical studies assess overall stress and fatigue rather than specific adrenal gland outcomes. Nevertheless, the cumulative evidence supports its traditional use as an adaptogen, with some scientific validation for its influence on stress-related body systems, including the adrenal glands. As such, rosavin-containing Rhodiola extracts are commonly marketed for adrenal support, but more large-scale, well-controlled human studies are needed to clarify their specific effects on adrenal health.
