Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Shataverins are a class of steroidal saponins found in Asparagus racemosus, commonly known as Shatavari, a plant widely used in Ayurvedic medicine. The use of Shatavari and its shataverin constituents to support the adrenal glands is primarily based on traditional medicine rather than robust scientific evidence. Ayurvedic texts describe Shatavari as a “rasayana” (rejuvenative) herb, believed to help the body adapt to stress and promote vitality, which could be interpreted as supporting adrenal function. Some traditional practitioners recommend it to balance stress-related disorders, which they associate with adrenal health.

However, while there are some animal studies suggesting that Asparagus racemosus may have anti-stress and adaptogenic effects, there is a lack of direct clinical research specifically linking shataverins or Shatavari to improved adrenal gland function in humans. The mechanism is often speculated to involve modulation of stress hormones like cortisol, but this has not been conclusively demonstrated. In summary, while Shatavari and its active compounds have a long history of traditional use for stress and vitality, scientific validation for their role specifically in supporting adrenal glands remains limited.
