Evidence supporting the use of: Tribulus Terrestris
For the body system: Adrenal Glands
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Tribulus Terrestris is primarily used in traditional medicine systems, such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, for its purported benefits on vitality, libido, and general well-being. Its use to support the adrenal glands specifically is largely rooted in traditional beliefs rather than modern scientific research. Historically, Tribulus has been considered an adaptogen, a class of herbs thought to help the body resist stressors and support various body systems, including the adrenal glands, which play a key role in the stress response. However, while some studies have explored Tribulus’ effects on hormone regulation and physical performance, there is very limited direct scientific evidence supporting its efficacy in specifically enhancing adrenal gland function or addressing adrenal fatigue. Most clinical studies focus on its potential androgenic effects or its influence on sexual health, not adrenal support. Therefore, while Tribulus Terrestris continues to be marketed and used for adrenal support based on traditional uses, current scientific validation for this specific application is minimal.
