Evidence supporting the use of: Caffeine pterostilbene
For the health condition: Aging (prevention)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2
Caffeine pterostilbene is a relatively new compound that combines caffeine with pterostilbene, a polyphenol related to resveratrol. The rationale for its use in aging prevention comes primarily from studies on its components rather than on the combined molecule itself.
Pterostilbene has demonstrated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential neuroprotective effects in preclinical studies. These properties are relevant to aging, as oxidative stress and chronic inflammation are implicated in age-related decline. Some rodent studies have shown that pterostilbene supplementation can improve cognitive function and may modulate pathways involved in longevity (such as the sirtuin pathway), but robust clinical evidence in humans is lacking.
Caffeine, meanwhile, is well-studied for its effects on cognition, alertness, and some aspects of neuroprotection, but it is not established as an "anti-aging" compound. The combination with pterostilbene is marketed with claims of enhanced absorption and a prolonged stimulant effect, but direct evidence for anti-aging effects in humans is very limited.
Currently, there are no large-scale, peer-reviewed clinical trials demonstrating that caffeine pterostilbene delays aging or prevents age-related diseases in humans. Most evidence is preclinical, and the ingredient's use for aging prevention is based on theoretical mechanisms and extrapolation from animal and cellular models. As such, the scientific evidence supporting its use for aging prevention is limited.
