Fang-Feng (Saposhnikoviae divaricata) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb that has long been used in East Asian medicine for the treatment of respiratory allergies, such as allergic rhinitis. Its application is primarily justified by tradition, as documented in classical Chinese medical texts where it is described as effective in "dispelling wind" and relieving symptoms like sneezing, nasal congestion, and itching—common signs of allergies. In Chinese herbal formulas, Fang-Feng is commonly combined with other herbs in prescriptions like Yu Ping Feng San, which is used to "strengthen the exterior" and prevent invasion by wind pathogens, a concept often correlated with allergic responses in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Modern pharmacological studies have identified some bioactive compounds in Fang-Feng, such as chromones and coumarins, that exhibit anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects in vitro and in animal models. However, robust clinical trials in humans specifically evaluating its efficacy for respiratory allergies are limited, and evidence from well-designed randomized controlled trials is lacking. Thus, while there is some preliminary scientific basis for its traditional use, the majority of support for Fang-Feng in the context of respiratory allergies remains rooted in traditional practice rather than modern clinical evidence.
