Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

Indian Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum indicum) has a long-standing use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, for various ailments, including respiratory allergies. Traditional texts describe its use for symptoms such as cough, bronchitis, and other inflammatory respiratory conditions. The plant is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and antihistaminic properties, which could theoretically benefit individuals with allergic respiratory issues. However, scientific validation for these uses is limited. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest that extracts of Chrysanthemum indicum may possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, but robust clinical trials in humans specifically addressing allergy treatment are lacking. Thus, while its application is grounded in traditional use for respiratory ailments, there is insufficient scientific evidence to strongly support its efficacy for treating respiratory allergies.
