Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 2

Arginine creatine refers to formulations that combine arginine and creatine, though most studies address them individually. For angina pectoris, L-arginine has been investigated for its potential to improve endothelial function and promote nitric oxide production, leading to vasodilation and possibly improved blood flow to the heart. Several small clinical studies and pilot trials have shown that L-arginine supplementation can enhance exercise tolerance and reduce symptoms in angina patients, likely due to its nitric oxide-mediated vasodilatory effects. However, findings are mixed, and some larger trials have failed to show significant benefit, while others have raised safety concerns, particularly in post-myocardial infarction settings. Creatine itself is not commonly studied or used for angina, and there is little evidence supporting its role in this context.

Formulations combining arginine and creatine have not been the direct subject of robust clinical trials for angina. Most evidence focuses on L-arginine alone, and while there is a plausible mechanism and some positive results, overall the data are inconsistent and not strong enough to recommend widespread use. The evidence level is therefore rated as 2 out of 5—some preliminary scientific support exists, but it is limited, and not all studies agree.
