Lactotripeptide, a peptide derived from milk proteins (specifically, Valine-Proline-Proline [VPP] and Isoleucine-Proline-Proline [IPP]), has been investigated for its effects on arterial health, primarily in the context of blood pressure regulation. Several randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses have suggested that lactotripeptides may have a modest but statistically significant effect in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure, especially in individuals with prehypertension or mild hypertension. The proposed mechanism involves inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), similar to the action of some antihypertensive drugs, leading to vasodilation and improved arterial function.
Notable research includes a 2008 meta-analysis published in the American Journal of Hypertension and a 2015 Cochrane Review, both of which found small but consistent reductions in blood pressure with lactotripeptide supplementation. However, the magnitude of effect is generally considered modest, and some more recent systematic reviews have noted heterogeneity in study results and potential publication bias. While there is scientific validation for lactotripeptides’ role in supporting arterial health—primarily through blood pressure reduction—the overall evidence is moderate, and more large-scale, high-quality trials are needed to establish clinical significance, especially in diverse populations.
