Xantinol Nicotinate is a vasodilator compound formed from xanthinol and nicotinic acid (niacin). It has been used in several countries, particularly in Europe and Latin America, for its purported ability to improve peripheral and cerebral blood flow. The rationale for its use in supporting the arteries—specifically in the management of peripheral arterial diseases and cerebrovascular insufficiency—stems from its dual action: xanthinol acts as a vasodilator, while nicotinic acid can improve lipid profiles and promote vasodilation.

Clinical studies (mostly from the mid-20th century) suggest that Xantinol Nicotinate can cause vasodilation by increasing blood flow and decreasing blood viscosity, potentially benefiting patients with peripheral vascular diseases such as intermittent claudication. However, large-scale, high-quality randomized controlled trials are lacking, and its use has declined with the advent of better-characterized agents. The scientific evidence supporting its efficacy is therefore moderate at best and largely historical. Most current clinical guidelines do not recommend Xantinol Nicotinate due to the limited and dated evidence base.
