Traditional Ayurvedic texts describe ashwagandha as a "rasayana" (rejuvenative) that can support lung health, reduce inflammation, and help manage symptoms such as breathlessness and wheezing. The herb is thought to act as an adaptogen, supporting the body's response to stress, which can be a trigger for asthma attacks in some individuals.

From a scientific perspective, there is limited but emerging evidence that ashwagandha may influence immune responses and inflammation, both of which are relevant to asthma pathophysiology. Some animal studies have shown that ashwagandha extracts possess anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, potentially reducing bronchial inflammation in experimental models.
