Astragalin is a flavonoid compound found in various medicinal plants, including Astragalus membranaceus and Kaempferia galanga. Recent scientific studies have explored its potential immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, which are relevant to autoimmune disorders. In vitro and animal studies suggest that astragalin can inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β, and modulate signaling pathways (e.g., NF-κB, MAPK) involved in immune response. For example, research published in International Immunopharmacology (2019) and Journal of Ethnopharmacology (2021) demonstrated that astragalin reduced inflammation and ameliorated symptoms in animal models of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis. However, these findings are primarily preclinical; there is a lack of robust human clinical trials evaluating astragalin's efficacy or safety in autoimmune conditions. There is also minimal direct traditional use of purified astragalin for autoimmune disorders, though plants containing astragalin have been used in folk medicine for immune-related issues. Overall, while early scientific evidence indicates potential benefit, the current evidence base is limited and insufficient for strong clinical recommendations.
