Potentilla anserina, commonly known as Silverweed or Anserina, has a long history of use in traditional European herbal medicine, particularly for various genitourinary complaints. Historical texts and folk medicine practices describe its use as a remedy for urinary tract discomfort, mild incontinence, and irritation of the bladder. Herbalists have valued Anserina for its astringent, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties, which are attributed primarily to its tannin and flavonoid content. These astringent qualities were believed to help "tone" mucous membranes and reduce excessive urinary frequency or urgency.

However, scientific studies directly evaluating Anserina's efficacy in supporting bladder health or function are minimal. Most available research has focused on its gastrointestinal or antispasmodic effects, with very limited data on urinary or bladder-specific action. Thus, while its traditional use for bladder support is well documented in European materia medica and ethnobotanical sources, there is a lack of robust clinical or pharmacological evidence to confirm these effects. As such, Anserina's use for supporting the bladder body system is best characterized as traditional, with modest supporting evidence rooted in historical practice rather than modern science.
