Evidence supporting the use of: Didymocarpus
For the body system: Bladder
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Didymocarpus is primarily used in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and some folklore remedies, to support urinary tract health, including the bladder. Most commonly, Didymocarpus pedicellata appears as a component in polyherbal formulations such as "Cystone" from Himalaya, which is marketed for urinary tract and kidney health. Historical texts and ethnobotanical surveys cite its use as a diuretic, lithotriptic (helping to dissolve kidney stones), and support for urinary tract discomfort. However, while there are numerous references to its traditional use, robust scientific validation for its efficacy in supporting bladder health is limited. A handful of in vitro and animal studies suggest possible anti-lithic, anti-inflammatory, or diuretic properties, but these are not consistent or comprehensive enough to constitute strong scientific evidence, especially for specifically supporting the bladder. There are also no well-powered human clinical trials isolating Didymocarpus as a single agent for bladder health. Therefore, the use of Didymocarpus for supporting the bladder body system is justified by tradition, but not by strong scientific validation.
