Rating (out of 5): 2

Hygrophila (particularly Hygrophila auriculata, also called "Kokilaksha" in Ayurveda) has a long-standing history of use in traditional Indian medicine as a remedy for urinary tract and bladder-related issues. In Ayurvedic practice, extracts from various parts of the plant are used as a diuretic, and for the management of conditions such as urinary retention, kidney stones, and general bladder health. Historical texts describe its use to "cool" the urinary tract and promote urine flow, suggesting a supportive role for the bladder system.

However, modern scientific studies on its efficacy are limited. Some in vitro and animal studies have indicated possible diuretic and anti-inflammatory effects, but well-designed human clinical trials are lacking. The traditional use of Hygrophila for bladder support is therefore primarily based on historical and ethnobotanical evidence, rather than robust scientific validation. More research is needed to substantiate its effectiveness and safety in supporting bladder health in humans. Until such evidence is available, its use remains justified by traditional knowledge rather than modern science.
