Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Jatoba (Hymenaea courbaril), a tree native to Central and South America, has a history of use in traditional medicine by indigenous peoples of the Amazon. Various parts of the tree—especially the bark and resin—have been utilized for a range of ailments, including as a general tonic, for respiratory problems, and sometimes for urinary tract health. There are anecdotal reports and some ethnobotanical accounts suggesting its use to support bladder and urinary tract function, likely due to purported antimicrobial or anti-inflammatory properties.

However, scientific studies specifically evaluating Jatoba for bladder health or urinary tract disorders are lacking. Most research on Jatoba focuses on its antioxidant, antifungal, or general antimicrobial activity, with few, if any, studies directly connecting these properties to improved bladder function or urinary tract infection prevention or treatment. No high-quality clinical trials exist to validate its effectiveness for this purpose.

In summary, while Jatoba has a traditional reputation for supporting various body systems—including, in some cases, the urinary tract—there is currently insufficient scientific evidence to strongly support its use specifically for the bladder. The evidence remains primarily traditional and anecdotal.
