Eclipta (Eclipta alba), also known as false daisy, has a long-standing history in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for the management of external bleeding. In Ayurveda, Eclipta is referred to as "Bhringraj" and is often used topically as a poultice or juice applied directly to wounds, cuts, or abrasions to arrest bleeding and promote wound healing. Ancient texts and traditional practitioners describe its use for hemostatic purposes, likely owing to its purported astringent and cooling properties.

While the traditional application is well-documented, scientific studies providing robust evidence for Eclipta's efficacy in stopping external bleeding are limited. Some in vitro and animal studies suggest that extracts of Eclipta may possess wound-healing and anti-inflammatory activities, but these do not directly confirm hemostatic (bleeding-stopping) effects in humans. There is a lack of controlled clinical trials validating its hemostatic action. Thus, the use of Eclipta for external bleeding is primarily justified by traditional knowledge rather than scientific validation.
