Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Prunus species (such as Prunus domestica, Prunus armeniaca, Prunus persica, etc.) have a long history of medicinal use in various traditional systems, but their application for external bleeding is not prominent or widely documented. In a few traditional Chinese and folk medicine sources, some Prunus bark or leaves have been applied topically as poultices or washes to manage minor wounds, bruises, or skin conditions, which might incidentally help with external bleeding by providing astringent effects. However, such uses are rare and not a major part of Prunus spp.'s traditional medicinal profile, which is more commonly associated with laxative, sedative, or anti-inflammatory purposes. There is little to no scientific research validating the efficacy of Prunus extracts for external bleeding. No compounds with specific hemostatic activity have been isolated or characterized from commonly used Prunus species. Therefore, while there is minimal traditional basis for this application, it is not robust or well-supported either in historical texts or modern scientific literature.
