Evidence supporting the use of: Citrus nobilis
For the health condition: Bloodshot Eyes
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Citrus nobilis (commonly known as mandarin orange) has been referenced in various traditional medicine systems, particularly in East and Southeast Asia, for its purported health benefits. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), extracts from Citrus nobilis and related citrus fruits have sometimes been used in herbal formulas intended to "clear heat" and reduce inflammation, which are concepts that may be loosely related to symptoms such as bloodshot eyes. However, these uses are based on traditional theories rather than direct clinical observation of efficacy for ocular redness. There is no robust scientific validation or modern clinical research specifically supporting the use of Citrus nobilis for treating bloodshot eyes. The evidence largely consists of historical usage and anecdotal reports rather than controlled clinical trials or pharmacological studies. Therefore, while there is some traditional precedent for its use in formulas addressing symptoms that could include eye redness, the quality and directness of the evidence is very low.
