Capsiate is a non-pungent capsaicinoid found in the "CH-19 Sweet" pepper. Its use in bodybuilding is primarily based on scientific investigation into its metabolic effects. Capsiate has been studied for its role in increasing energy expenditure, fat oxidation, and thermogenesis, similar to capsaicin but without the burning sensation. Several small-scale human clinical trials and animal studies have shown that oral ingestion of capsiate can slightly increase resting metabolic rate and promote fat loss during periods of caloric restriction or exercise. This has led to claims that it may support body composition changes favorable to bodybuilders.

However, the overall magnitude of these effects is modest. Evidence for increases in muscle mass, strength, or direct anabolic effects is lacking. Most studies focus on its potential for aiding fat loss rather than muscle building. The quality of evidence is moderate, with most studies being short-term and involving small sample sizes. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and other peer-reviewed journals have published some of these studies, but larger and longer-term trials are needed to fully confirm its efficacy and safety in the context of bodybuilding. Thus, while there is scientific rationale and some validation for its use to support fat loss within bodybuilding, the evidence is limited and does not robustly support significant effects on muscle hypertrophy or strength.
