Synopsis

Source of validity: Scientific
Rating (out of 5): 5

Chicken protein is scientifically validated as a dietary component to support bodybuilding and muscle growth. Protein is an essential macronutrient required for the repair and synthesis of muscle tissue, especially following resistance exercise. Numerous studies have demonstrated that adequate protein intake, particularly from complete protein sources containing all essential amino acids, is crucial for optimizing muscle protein synthesis and facilitating recovery and hypertrophy in athletes and bodybuilders.

Chicken, as a lean animal protein, is rich in all the essential amino acids, including a high content of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) like leucine, which play a key role in stimulating muscle protein synthesis. Compared to other protein sources, chicken is low in fat (if skinless), affordable, widely available, and easily digested, making it a practical protein source for those engaged in bodybuilding.

Multiple randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses support the role of dietary protein from animal sources, including chicken, in increasing muscle mass and strength when combined with resistance training (Morton et al., 2018). Guidelines from authoritative bodies such as the International Society of Sports Nutrition recommend protein intakes of 1.4–2.0 g/kg of body weight per day for building and maintaining muscle mass, and chicken protein fits well within these recommendations.
