Synopsis

Rating (out of 5): 2

Citrulline silicate is a compound that combines L-citrulline, a non-essential amino acid, with silicate. L-citrulline is known for its role in the urea cycle and its ability to increase blood levels of arginine, which can then be converted to nitric oxide, a vasodilator. Increased nitric oxide production is thought to enhance blood flow, potentially improving exercise performance by increasing oxygen and nutrient delivery to muscles. Several studies on L-citrulline and citrulline malate have shown modest benefits in terms of increased repetitions during resistance training, reduced muscle soreness, and improved endurance in aerobic exercise. However, the specific combination of citrulline silicate has not been as extensively studied as L-citrulline or citrulline malate. Some preliminary research suggests that citrulline silicate may increase plasma citrulline and arginine levels and support nitric oxide production, but direct evidence for improvements in strength, muscle growth, or exercise performance in bodybuilders is limited. The available evidence is mostly from small-scale studies or unpublished data provided by supplement manufacturers. Therefore, while there is a scientific rationale for its use and some preliminary evidence, strong scientific validation is lacking, and more well-controlled clinical trials are needed to confirm its efficacy for bodybuilding purposes.
