Ligandrol (also known as LGD-4033) is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) developed primarily for the treatment of conditions such as muscle wasting and osteoporosis. It has gained popularity in bodybuilding due to its potential to increase lean muscle mass and strength without many of the side effects associated with traditional anabolic steroids.

Scientific studies on Ligandrol are limited, especially in healthy populations or athletes. The most notable human trial is a 21-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in 2013 involving healthy young men. This trial demonstrated that Ligandrol increased lean body mass in a dose-dependent manner, with a favorable safety and tolerability profile over the short term. However, the study's duration was short, and it did not assess long-term safety or efficacy for bodybuilding purposes. No studies have confirmed performance enhancement in athletes, and much of the evidence for its use in bodybuilding is anecdotal or from non-peer-reviewed sources.

Ligandrol is not approved by the FDA for bodybuilding or muscle enhancement, and its use in sports is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Long-term safety data are lacking, and there are concerns about potential adverse effects on hormonal balance, liver function, and cardiovascular health. In summary, while there is some scientific evidence for Ligandrol's anabolic effects, robust, long-term clinical data supporting its use for bodybuilding are insufficient.
