Rating (out of 5): 2

Arisaema, particularly Arisaema erubescens (commonly known as "Tian Nan Xing" in Traditional Chinese Medicine, TCM), has a long history of use in East Asian herbal practice. In TCM, Arisaema tubers are processed and used primarily to "resolve phlegm" and "dispel wind," which corresponds to supporting the respiratory or bronchial system, especially in conditions involving cough, asthma, bronchitis, or excessive sputum. Historical medical texts such as the "Shennong Bencao Jing" and subsequent materia medica reference its application in treating productive coughs and chest congestion. Its usage is always highly controlled due to its inherent toxicity in the raw form.

However, scientific validation for the use of Arisaema to support the bronchial system is limited. Some pharmacological studies suggest that processed Arisaema extracts may have anti-inflammatory or antitussive (cough-suppressing) effects in animal models, but robust clinical trials in humans are lacking. The majority of evidence is anecdotal or based on historical usage rather than rigorous modern research. Thus, while its use for the bronchial system is well-established in traditional medicine, scientific support is currently weak and further investigation is needed to confirm efficacy and safety.
