Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 2

The use of lung tissue (often termed "lung extract" or "lung glandular") to support the bronchial or respiratory system is primarily justified by traditional practices, especially in the context of organotherapy. Organotherapy, popularized in the 19th and early 20th centuries, is the concept that consuming animal organs could support the corresponding organ in humans ("like cures like"). Various traditional health systems, including European naturopathy, have historically recommended lung tissue as a supplement for respiratory health, including support for bronchials and lungs. However, the scientific validation for this practice is scant. There are no robust clinical trials or modern biomedical studies confirming that oral consumption of lung tissue meaningfully supports human bronchial or pulmonary function. The rationale in traditional use is primarily based on historical theory rather than empirical evidence. Some proponents claim that lung glandulars may provide cofactors or micronutrients beneficial for respiratory tissues, but these claims remain unsubstantiated by significant scientific research. As such, while the tradition exists, the evidence base is weak, and this ingredient’s use is not widely recognized in evidence-based medicine for bronchial support.
