Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Rubber Rabbitbrush (Ericameria nauseosa, formerly Chrysothamnus nauseosus) has a history of traditional use among Native American groups in the western United States. Ethnobotanical records indicate that some tribes, such as the Navajo, used infusions or teas made from the leaves or flowers as a remedy for coughs, colds, and other respiratory complaints, which suggests a traditional association with supporting the bronchial or respiratory system. However, these uses are based on anecdotal accounts and oral traditions rather than formal clinical investigation.

There is currently little to no scientific research or clinical evidence to validate the efficacy of Rubber Rabbitbrush for bronchial health or respiratory support. The plant does contain various compounds, including flavonoids and terpenoids, but their pharmacological relevance to the bronchial system has not been substantiated by scientific studies. As such, the use of Rubber Rabbitbrush for supporting the bronchial body system is justified primarily by traditional rather than scientific evidence. Its traditional use earns it a low evidence rating, as the lack of modern research prevents any strong recommendation for its use in this context.
