Sapindus mukorossi, commonly known as the soapnut or reetha, has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems, particularly in Ayurveda and folk medicine across South and East Asia. It has been employed for various skin conditions due to its reputed anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and cleansing properties. In the context of bruises and wound healing, traditional practitioners have sometimes used preparations of Sapindus mukorossi fruit or extracts topically, believing the saponins and other phytochemicals may help reduce inflammation and promote healing. However, while there are a few in vitro and animal studies indicating anti-inflammatory and wound healing potential of Sapindus mukorossi extracts, there is little to no direct scientific research specifically addressing its efficacy for bruises in humans. The evidence for its use in bruise healing is thus primarily anecdotal or based on traditional practice, with only limited preclinical support.
