Wood betony (Stachys officinalis) has a long history of use in traditional European herbal medicine, primarily for its effects on the nervous system and as a general tonic. When it comes to burns and scalds, some historical texts and folk remedies mention the topical application of wood betony leaves or preparations to soothe the skin and promote healing. The rationale in traditional use is often linked to the herb’s reputed anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. However, these references are relatively sparse and secondary compared to the herb’s more common uses (e.g., headaches, anxiety, digestive complaints). There is little to no modern scientific research specifically evaluating the efficacy of wood betony for treating burns or scalds.
