Evidence supporting the use of: Huang Hua
For the health condition: Cancer (prevention)
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
The use of "Huang Hua" (which literally translates to "yellow flower" in Chinese and may refer to several herbs, though commonly refers to Chrysanthemum morifolium or sometimes Hypericum monogynum) in the context of cancer prevention is primarily rooted in traditional medicine rather than scientific validation. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), certain "yellow-flowered" herbs like chrysanthemum are believed to possess detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, and health-promoting properties. Some TCM practitioners recommend these herbs as part of general wellness regimens, which may include cancer prevention, based on their perceived ability to "clear heat" and remove toxins from the body.
However, there is little robust clinical or preclinical evidence supporting the direct use of "Huang Hua" for cancer prevention. While some laboratory studies have explored the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of chrysanthemum extracts, these findings are preliminary and do not translate into proven cancer preventive effects in humans. No large-scale, high-quality clinical trials have established the efficacy of these herbs for cancer prevention. Therefore, the practice is justified mainly by tradition, and the evidence is weak (1/5).
