Historically, topical or powdered sulphur was sometimes applied to ulcers in the mouth to promote healing and reduce discomfort. However, there is very limited scientific evidence supporting its efficacy for this purpose. Most modern clinical guidelines do not recommend sulphur as a treatment for canker sores, and there are no high-quality randomized controlled trials substantiating its effectiveness.
