Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Erigeron (commonly known as fleabane) has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, particularly in North America and Europe. Traditionally, various species of Erigeron have been used for their purported effects on blood vessels, including the treatment of capillary fragility, hemorrhoids, and other circulatory issues. Folk medicine texts and 19th-century herbal references sometimes describe Erigeron as an astringent and styptic, suggesting its use in conditions involving minor bleeding and capillary leakage. However, there is little to no modern scientific research validating these traditional uses. No high-quality clinical trials or robust pharmacological studies directly support the efficacy of Erigeron species for strengthening capillaries or improving capillary health. The available evidence is almost entirely anecdotal or based on historical usage. Thus, while Erigeron has been used traditionally to support the capillary system, the evidence supporting its effectiveness is weak and not substantiated by modern science.
