Ligustrazin (also known as tetramethylpyrazine or TMP) is an active compound extracted from the Chinese herb Ligusticum chuanxiong, widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Traditionally, it has been employed to "invigorate blood circulation" and "remove blood stasis," which TCM practitioners often relate to the function and health of the capillaries and microcirculation. Historically, Ligustrazin-containing preparations have been utilized in China for conditions such as stroke, angina, and various vascular disorders, where supporting microvascular circulation is believed to be beneficial.

While some preclinical and small-scale clinical studies suggest that Ligustrazin may have vasodilatory, anti-platelet aggregation, and microcirculation-improving effects, the majority of evidence supporting its use for capillary health comes from traditional practice rather than large, high-quality scientific trials. Systematic scientific validation remains limited, and most studies originate from China with variable methodological rigor. Therefore, while there is a traditional basis and some preliminary scientific signals for Ligustrazin’s use in supporting the capillaries and microcirculation, robust clinical evidence is lacking, and it is not widely recognized or used for these purposes in mainstream Western medicine.
