Maqui (Aristotelia chilensis) is a berry native to Chile and Argentina and has a long history of use in traditional Mapuche medicine. Its use for supporting capillary health is based primarily on traditional knowledge rather than robust scientific validation. The Mapuche people have consumed maqui for centuries, attributing to it general health-promoting and anti-inflammatory properties, which may extend to vascular health, including capillaries. Maqui is notably rich in anthocyanins—plant pigments with antioxidant activity—which are believed to help protect blood vessels from oxidative stress and maintain their integrity. Some preliminary laboratory studies suggest that anthocyanins can improve endothelial function and reduce capillary fragility, but specific research directly linking maqui berry consumption to improved capillary health in humans is very limited. Most of the available scientific evidence focuses on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of maqui extract in general, rather than specific benefits for the capillaries. Therefore, while traditional use supports maqui's role in vascular health, including the capillaries, scientific validation specific to the capillaries is weak and mostly extrapolated from broader studies on anthocyanin-rich foods. More clinical research is needed to confirm these effects in humans.
