Phenolics, a broad class of compounds including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and tannins, are widely recognized for their antioxidant and vasoprotective properties. Scientific studies have shown that certain phenolics, particularly flavonoids such as quercetin and rutin, can support capillary health by strengthening capillary walls, reducing permeability, and decreasing inflammation. These effects are believed to arise from their ability to scavenge free radicals and modulate enzymes involved in vascular function. Clinical trials have demonstrated that flavonoid supplementation can reduce symptoms associated with capillary fragility, such as easy bruising and edema. For example, a meta-analysis published in the journal "Phytotherapy Research" (2016) concluded that flavonoid supplementation had a significant positive effect on capillary resistance and microcirculation. Additionally, phenolics are known to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as hyaluronidase and collagenase, which can degrade the extracellular matrix, further supporting capillary integrity. While most evidence is concentrated on specific phenolics rather than the entire class, the collective scientific validation establishes a moderate level of support for using phenolics to maintain capillary health.
