Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) has traditionally been used as a supportive treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), based largely on early observational reports and anecdotal evidence from the mid-20th century. Some early studies from the 1970s and 1980s suggested that B6 supplementation could alleviate symptoms of CTS, particularly in patients found to have low B6 levels. These studies often lacked rigorous controls, used small sample sizes, and did not always account for confounding variables. Subsequent randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews have found little to no consistent benefit of B6 supplementation in the general population with CTS, especially in those without a clear B6 deficiency. Major clinical guidelines do not recommend B6 as a standard treatment for CTS. Despite this, B6 is still sometimes used in alternative medicine and by practitioners who follow traditional approaches. In summary, while there is a historical precedent for the use of B6 in CTS, modern scientific evidence does not strongly support its efficacy, and its use persists more out of tradition than scientific validation.
