Glucosamine potassium sulfate is commonly used as a dietary supplement to support joint health and potentially treat cartilage damage, particularly in conditions like osteoarthritis. Scientific interest in glucosamine arises from its role as a precursor for glycosaminoglycans, which are key components of cartilage. Some clinical trials and meta-analyses have evaluated the efficacy of glucosamine (usually as sulfate or hydrochloride salts) for reducing joint pain and slowing cartilage degradation.
However, the scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness is mixed. Several studies, including large randomized controlled trials, have found little or no clinically meaningful benefit over placebo in reducing pain or improving function in patients with cartilage damage or osteoarthritis.
