For the health condition: Chest Pain
Synopsis
Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1
Joe-Pye weed (Eutrochium purpureum and related species) is a plant native to North America, traditionally used in herbal medicine by Native American tribes and later by European settlers. Its most common traditional applications have been for urinary tract issues, kidney stones, fever, and as a diuretic. There is limited documentation that some indigenous groups may have used Joe-Pye weed for general pain relief, which could, in rare instances, include chest pain, but this is not a well-documented or primary use. There is no modern scientific research or clinical trial evidence supporting the use of Joe-Pye weed specifically for the treatment or relief of chest pain (angina or other etiologies). The traditional use of this plant for chest pain is thus very limited, with little substantiation in either ethnobotanical texts or scientific literature. As such, its use for chest pain is supported primarily by tradition, and the overall evidence for its effectiveness for this indication rates very low.
