Synopsis

Source of validity: Traditional
Rating (out of 5): 1

Pussy Ears (Cyanotis somaliensis) is primarily recognized as an ornamental plant rather than a medicinal herb. However, in the context of traditional medicine, the term “Pussy Ears” is sometimes mistakenly used to refer to other plants, such as Orthosiphon aristatus (also known as Cat's Whiskers or Java Tea) or Kalanchoe tomentosa (Panda Plant), both of which have some traditional medicinal uses. In folk medicine, certain fuzzy-leaved plants, occasionally called "Pussy Ears," have been employed in remedies intended to treat general malaise or chills, but such uses are anecdotal and lack rigorous documentation. There is no substantial scientific research, clinical trial, or pharmacological data directly supporting the use of Cyanotis somaliensis or any plant commonly called “Pussy Ears” in the treatment or support of chills. The justification for such use, where it exists, is rooted in tradition or anecdotal reports within local herbal practices, but not in evidence-based medicine. As such, the evidence for its efficacy in treating chills is minimal, and the practice cannot be considered validated by modern standards.
