Black tea has some scientific evidence supporting its use for the improvement of circulation and vascular health. The primary active compounds in black tea are flavonoids, particularly theaflavins and thearubigins, which have been shown to exert beneficial effects on endothelial function, a key factor in circulatory health. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that regular black tea consumption can improve endothelial-dependent vasodilation, leading to better blood flow and reduced arterial stiffness. For example, a randomized controlled trial published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2012) found that participants who consumed black tea experienced improved arterial function compared to those who did not consume tea. Other studies have shown that black tea can reduce blood pressure modestly and may help lower the risk of cardiovascular events, both of which are related to improved circulation.
Despite these findings, the magnitude of the benefit is generally considered modest, and black tea should not be regarded as a primary treatment for poor circulation.
